Frequently Asked Questions with Sarah Wooldridge Design

You can find answers to our most common questions here. If you need anything else, please call 01628 333 400.

How do I measure my own windows?

We would always recommend having a complimentary visit from our expert team who can accurately and expertly assess your windows and make the best recommendations to suit. If you would like to measure your own windows then there are a few things to consider. Where would you like the pole or track to sit, how much of the window should be covered by fabric, how far do you want the curtains to fall, or are there any radiators, light switches or doors causing an obstruction? An excellent starting point would be to photograph your window and email it to us at [email protected], along with any design requirements you have. Our team can then get in touch to talk you through how best to measure for each specific project.

What is your ordering and returns process?

Once you have selected the right fabric and design and have approved your estimate, Sarah Wooldridge Design will send you an initial invoice. You can pay all in one go, or as a 50/50 split. On payment of your invoice we will commence production straight away. All our items are lovingly handmade from scratch in the UK and take 4-6 weeks to manufacture. If you require an expedited service then please contact us. Once your items are complete we will be in touch to arrange final payment and installation. Due to the bespoke nature of our items we are unable to guarantee any cancellations or refunds unless there is a fault with the product. If you would like to cancel your order then you must contact us as soon as possible, and instances will be dealt with on a case by case basis. This does not affect your statutory rights. Please take a look at our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Do you offer an at home design service?

Sarah Wooldridge Design offers a fully complimentary at-home design service, where one of our experts will visit you to discuss your requirements. We will take detailed measurements of your windows and discuss a wide range of fabric choices during the visit, right down to the finishing touches. We recommend visiting you at home, as your property layout, lighting orientation and location all affect which colours and patterns work best. We can assist customers off-plan for new builds, or through measurements and photographs for projects further afield and overseas. You are also welcome at our Maidenhead studio, where we can look over a comprehensive array of pattern books and discuss your requirements further. Please note this option is available by appointment only.

Do you offer ethically sourced, environmentally conscious, or hypoallergenic friendly options?

At Sarah Wooldridge Design we are wholly committed to our environmental responsibilities and make business decisions based on our impact to the wider global environment. We choose to work with ethical and accredited suppliers who adhere to the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and can provide clients with anything from FSC wooden poles to organically coloured natural fabrics, with the majority of our sourcing coming from within the UK. We are also able to help clients with hypoallergenic requirements – please contact us for more information.

What guarantees do you offer?

All our items are handmade using the highest quality materials to the best possible standard. Each piece is also carefully inspected once completed and installed to a top-quality standard. We are pleased to offer a 12 month guarantee on all items manufactured and sold by Sarah Wooldridge Design in addition to your statutory rights. In the event that there is a problem with anything you have received from us please do get in touch. Please note this guarantee does not apply if the problem is caused by accidental damage, if an item has been made to your measurements rather than ours or, where relevant, where our fitters haven’t installed the item. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Can I install my own curtains and blinds?

You certainly can. We offer a full fitting service to all clients, which is a critical aspect to ensuring a great final result. Our Fitters are equipped with decades of experience and their own specialist tools to achieve the right outcome. If you would prefer to install your curtains or blinds from Sarah Wooldridge Design then do let us know and we can provide measurements and advice specific to your project.

Please be advised that child safety regulations mean that roman blinds must be installed in a very specific way. We will provide you with the required information but will accept no liability for issues or injuries incurred as a result of self-installation. Please also be advised that self-installation invalidates the Sarah Wooldridge Design guarantee, see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

How do I take care of my curtains and blinds?

Once your curtains or blinds are installed, it is best to leave them stacked as the fitter has left them overnight, to allow them to ease into position. Vacuuming your curtains and blinds every three months will help keep them dust free, and opening windows to allow air circulation will help release trapped smells from the fabric. Sunlight will cause most fabrics to fade over time, so keep your curtains out of direct sunlight wherever possible. We strongly advise against dry cleaning your curtains and blinds, as the different layers of construction will react differently, which can create a rumpled or bunched effect. Unfortunately we are unable to alter or repair curtains damaged as a result of dry cleaning.
