We love the change in the season. As the temperature shifts from the warmth of summer to the cooler air of autumn, nature provides us with inspiration for our interior schemes as the leaves turn on the trees. It is an exciting time of year as many of the fabric houses launch their autumn/ winter collections, often inspired by the change in season. We see the design focus of our interiors and window dressings move towards a more comfy, luxurious feel.
This month in our blog, we not only want to share some of the autumn 24 fabric design trends but we also have some exciting news, we have partnered with a new fabric house, The Pure Edit. Dare I say it, we are also seeing many of our clients start to turn their attention to Christmas! I know it is too early to talk about the festivities just yet, but if you are interested in refreshing your window dressings and would like them in place for entertaining across the festive season, please start thinking about your project. September/ October is a busy time for us and we would hate for our loyal clients to miss out.
Autumn 24 Fabric Design Trends
September is an exciting time of year for the world of interiors as many of the fabric houses launch their autumn/ winter collections. We continue to see a varied range of fabric choices available for your window dressings, to suit all kinds of styles and budgets. We spoke with our Head Designer, Sarah who shared more about the kind of trends she is seeing this season:
- Earthy tones. To reflect the change in season we see the fabric colour choices of our window dressings move from the bright vibrant summer colours of bright yellow, strong greens, rich reds and sparkly blues, shifting towards more earthy autumnal tones. The fabrics coming through are more neutral in tone eg: greys, beiges and browns. We met with the Wemyss rep recently and they have some fabulous fabrics coming out this autumn – watch this space.
- Natural fabrics/ materials. We are selling lots of wooden poles and tracking systems at the moment as they work well with some of the Farrow and Ball paint soft tones eg: greys and greens. As a general idea with our window dressing schemes, we see clients looking for something that blends with the wall colouring rather than contrasting.
- Sustainability continues to be a consideration for our clients and the fabric industry is responding to this by building on their sustainable fabric collections and actively sharing their environmental policies.
- Luxury. As we head towards the cooler months many are seeking a little bit of luxury that creates a sense of warmth. A number of our clients are asking for the two-layered look with a voile sitting behind a working curtain, as it is a way of creating a more luxurious hotel feel, especially for bedroom projects. This can also work well for a new build when the apartments or townhouses are built close together, not only does this create a luxurious effect but practically provides some privacy.
- Shiny fabrics: Many of our clients are also choosing shiny fabrics to reflect the light and create the feeling of space.
- Checks, striped or small print materials continue to be a popular choice, especially for Roman blinds. Most fabric houses have their bespoke collections and tend to lean towards plain linen backgrounds with smaller designs on the fabric to provide that unique, tailored solution. I find that Peony & Sage are a popular choice for these kinds of fabrics.
We are also seeing a resurgence of a 1970 style of interior design this autumn, but I find our clients are not generally looking for big bold statement designs. Although these new blue velvet fabrics are interesting adaptations of Romo’s “Black Edition Velvet” offer a contemporary and opulent design in deep teals and blues.
Introducing The Pure Edit Fabric House
We are delighted to introduce The Pure Edit, our newest fabric house recruit. They offer an awesome range and our Head Designer Sarah has been impressed with the quality of their fabrics, we have made some customer orders already and they have come together really nicely. In particular, we are pleased to see the backcloth they are using is stable. This is important because if the print is not done by a good machine then you get a lot of pattern drift, which can result in fabric wastage.
Not only do they have a very clear sustainable approach to business but they also offer some beautiful reasonably priced fabric options. To explore their full autumn/ winter range, click HERE.
Christmas Window Dressing Order Timings
I know it is early to be thinking about Christmas, however, if you are keen to refresh your window dressings for the festive season, it is the perfect time to start the conversation. As we enter one of our busiest times of year we need to ensure we are giving our production house plenty of time to craft and create beautiful window dressings.
From a vast range of fabric options to style and design, there are lots of different ways we can create beautiful window dressing solutions for your space. Our team will guide you through the process, every step of the way to ensure your dream curtains or blinds work with your room design. We will spend time with you to understand your plans for the room and the space we’re working with to ensure we exceed your expectations with beautifully designed, made-to-measure curtains. We will ensure that we bring to life the image you have in your mind.
Our deadline for ordering window dressings to be delivered and fitted by Christmas is w/c 14 October. Ideally, we would need to be speaking with clients any time from now about their project, so that we have plenty of time to plan, brief and source the right solution for your window design.
