When we talk to customers about a new commission for bespoke made to measure curtains or blinds, we advise that the process can take around eight weeks for their dream window dressing to be installed in their home. Why does it take so long? We have created this blog to give you an idea of what goes into our work during your project lead time.
Consultation and Measuring
There are no rush jobs here! At Sarah Wooldridge Design, before starting your order we always send a member of our experienced team to your property for a consultation. During the visit we discuss what sort of window dressing you would like to achieve. We also advise on the various options, discussing the differences in aesthetic quality, functionality, as well as the range of beautiful fabric that are available. This visit allows us to really get to know our customers and the look they are after, as well as how they want to feel when they walk into each room and show it to friends and family.
Another thing we do during the consultation is look at windows we will be creating curtains or blinds for. It’s important for one of our team to take precise measurements so that our expert craftsmen have the right information to follow during the build stage. Measuring up is a crucial step in the process, which is why we always prefer to send one of our team to do the job. There are many online curtain makers who are happy to use customer measurements. However, in our experience, it is best to see the windows in person so we can note anything that needs to be considered in the design. This way we can make sure that the final product will fit perfectly when it comes to installation.
The Creation Process
Everything we do here comes with a personal touch. All of our window dressings are handmade from scratch here in the United Kingdom. During your eight week lead time the exact fabric amounts are ordered and received, quality checked for flaws or print errors, and then cut to the precise amounts needed for accurate pattern matching. At this stage of the process pattern placement is crucial to get the best effect from your fabrics – no one wants to see a design cut in half, a docked flower or unfinished bird motif!
Our expert team of craftsmen take pride in their work and go above and beyond to deliver quality on every piece. Our handmade curtains and blinds are manufactured to the highest possible standard, including features such as mitred weighted corners, hand stitched hems, lining layers aligned to the face fabric and hand-sewn into position, invisible velcro and bottom bar stitching on roman blinds, headings formed by hand and pleat sizes calculated precisely for the window size. As well as that we provide the highest quality linings and interlinings available in the market, and can use recycled, eco-friendly, thermal and sound resistant linings, as well as coloured and patterned linings on request.
We appreciate that creating curtains and blinds individually is not as quick as a production line. It does however allow us to maintain the quality of our made to measure creations and ensure we deliver a truly bespoke service.
Fitting Day
When your window dressing is ready one of our expert installers will visit to fit the finished product in your home. At this stage we are confident that everything will work perfectly because we have been responsible for every stage of the design and creation process. The finished product will fit perfectly and provide functionality that just cannot be achieved in any other way.
