As we head into 2025, it is a time for reflection and to plan for the year ahead. We are seeing lots of the spring/ summer fabric collections starting to appear and there are certainly some really exciting fabric designs coming through. More on that next month. This month we wanted to take another of our core fabric house partners and shine the spotlight on their history, ethos and story. Introducing The Romo Group.

We have worked with The Romo Group for over 25 years and their fabric designs prove to continue to be incredibly popular not only with our clients but also with our Head Designer, Sarah. Here is what she had to say:

“Romo fabrics are always right up to date with colours and designs whilst having the best quality cloths. There are a diverse range of fabric options to choose from and many of our clients find something to suit their style and taste.”

The company was set up in 1902 by Robert Mould and was originally a small-scale furniture manufacturing business based in Nottingham, England. By the 1930s, the company had also expanded to supply fabrics and furnishings, continuing to evolve until, eventually, its sole focus was supplying furniture fabric. In the 1980s, Romo started its own in-house design studio and redefined the business as it is known today.

Six brands form The Romo Group and include: Romo, Black Edition, Kirkby Design, Mark Alexander, Villa Nova and Zinc Textiles. This diversity of brands offers an impressive collection of fabrics, wallcoverings and accessories.

The Romo Group is a trade-only company, which means you can only purchase the fabrics and wall coverings through an interior designer or designated supplier. Today, the Romo Collections are led by Design Director Emily Mould, and they release collections twice a year through their worldwide network of designers, retailers, distributors and agents across 70 countries. With the customer at the heart of any launch, the designers research new ideas, finding inspiration from various influences from travel and fashion to nature and the outdoors. Romo’s reputation for design excellence is driven by a talented team of creative in-house designers

The Romo Group is a fifth-generation family-run business, currently managed by the founder’s great-grandson, Jonathan Mould and they have 350 employees. They have an extensive network of international showrooms in Europe and the US with international distribution partners.

The Romo Group has a fairly robust CSR policy in place, click HERE to discover more. With excellent customer service and employee welfare at the heart of the business, they also not only focus on giving back to key charities but also have clear environmental and sustainable policies in place. They recognise the importance of minimising their environmental impact and require all of their suppliers and partners to comply with similar sustainable principles. They have donated some of their profits to enable Oxfam to implement a programme to improve access to education for primary school children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Helping to build over 60 new schools and provide much-needed training workshops for teachers and parent-teacher associations.
