There are many different types of blinds available, each with their own design and practical aspects, but which type of blind should you choose?

Blinds can serve different purposes in an interior so choosing the right style of blind is important. the first thing to consider is what you want from your window dressing. Do you need a blind for a bedroom that needs to completely block out the light or are you interested in getting some privacy during the day whilst still allowing natural light in?

Secondly your blind choice should also work with the rest of your interior, so finding something that matches the decor is also important. Your choice of blind should work for you in your space, both in terms of practicality and style. This blog post gives a brief overview of the different bespoke made to measure blinds we make here at Sarah Wooldridge Design to help you work out which type of blind option is best.

Blind Ideas

Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are a relatively simple design comprising a single piece of fabric that is attached to a roller with either a manually operated or an electric mechanism. When they are fully closed, roller blinds can be fantastic for keeping light out of a room. However, there is less potential to have privacy and light coming into the room at the same time. If you want a blind that lets you see outside when the blind is closed then a different option would be best.

Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are a classic blind style with horizontal slats. They can be made from wood or metal and the mechanisms allow for opening and closing, as well as controlling the angle of the slats to allow light in,. This style of blind is really popular because they can give a great deal of privacy without completely blocking the natural light that enters the room when the blind is closed.

Roman Blinds

Roman blinds are made from a single piece of fabric. the blind has horizontal rods sewn into the back so that when the blind is open, the fabric gathers to create horizontal pleats. This type of blind can be made in all manner of fabrics and lined with black out material too, which makes them an especially practical option for bedrooms. As with roller blinds, it is not possible to see out of the window when this blind is closed.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds are typically made from vertical strips of fabric attached to a runner which allows them to be fully opened and closed. Weights are sewn into the bottom and each panel is also attached to the next to keep everything uniform. It is also possible to adjust the angle of the blinds to give some control over the amount of light that enters the room.
